Bengaluru Police have arrested Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lakshya Sen and his badminton academy coach. A person who runs another academy in the city accused the players of lying about their age.
The FIR, registered Thursday, comes to a district court that recently ordered police to investigate allegations against 21-year-old Sen. In addition to Sen and his coach Vimal Kumar, police have also named the player’s father Dhirendra Sen, brother Chirag Sen and his mother Nirmala Sen at FIR.
Uttarakhand native Sen trains at the badminton academy of Prakash Padukone in Bangalore. His father is a coach for the Indian Sports Authority. Chirag Sen is also a badminton player. The complaint was filed by Nagaraja MG, which operates a badminton academy in Bangalore. Above-average players who participate in tournaments in certain age categories at the junior level have a natural advantage over other players.
According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Lakshya is currently 21 years old and his date of birth is August 16, 2001. Chirag, on the other hand, is 24 years old and his date of birth is July 22, 1998.
Lakshya was bestowed upon Arjuna Award on Wednesday at Rashtrapati Bhavan for a glorious year. He currently ranks 6th in the Indian men’s singles world rankings for his shuttle.
