The Indian Sports governing bodies are extremely underestimated by the International authorities nowadays. Amidst the above situation, there is a little relief for Hockey India as the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has taken a U-turn of its concern over India’s strength to host the World Cup. Later a day showing concern, The FIH delegation is now ready to visit India next month. CEO Thierry Weil said, “It will be a shame if World Cup is taken away from India,” On Friday.
A three-member FIH delegation, led by newly-appointed acting president Seif Ahmed, is expected to visit India on August 15 for an emergency meeting to assess progress made with regard to the adoption of a new Constitution, which is a must to salvage the World Cup, the country is scheduled to host in 2023.
Earlier, The FIH on Wednesday sought a “detailed timeline” from the court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) on the adoption of the amended Constitution and holding of fresh elections of Hockey India. If Hockey India does not adopt a Sports Code-compliant Constitution at the earliest, the country runs the risk of losing the hosting rights of the World Cup which is scheduled to start on January 13 and run till 29 of the same month.
FIH CEO Weil said they have set a tentative date for the visit and are now awaiting confirmation from the CoA, which is running the game in the country after the Delhi High Court suspended Hockey India’s Executive Board for violation of the National Sports Code.
Weil told a news agency, “We are planning to visit India on August 15 for 2 to 3 days. We will do whatever is required to solve the matter,”
“CEO Weil clarified FIH’s stand over India’s strength on hosting World Cup after wide opposition in India,” A source said.
Earlier, The Footballs world’s governing body FIFA imposed a ban on the All India Football Federation(AIFF) and the Indian Olympic Association(IOA) also raised questions recently over the Indian Olympic Association(IOA)’s national body regarding quadrennial elections.
