Finally, after a long time, Virat Kohli scores his 71st century after 1021 days to be precise. A century from Virat’s bat was much awaited than any cricketer we look around. Virat was struggling with his form for a long time but the match against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022 was the day for the champ. It is considered to be Virat’s first ever maiden 100 that took his first international cricket since November 2019.

Surprisingly, this match with Afghanistan was without Rohit Sharma, and was all for Virat and KL Rahul to set the stage on fire. Never expected, Virat scored a massive 122 runs from 61 deliveries with scoring 62 runs from 41 deliveries which also includes 12 fours and 6 sixes leading the overall score to a massive 212 runs.

With this 71st century, Virat tallied the record of the former cricketer Ricky Ponting and now must be looking forward to surpassing the legendary who is also known as ‘little master’, but in actuality Sachin Tendulkar who has the highest of 100 centuries under his name.

Some facts to know

  • Virat Kohli became the second player after his peer Rohit Sharma in scoring 3500 runs in T20I
  • Virat with his 122* run innings against Pakistan became the 13 highest run scorers as an Indian
  • Kohli was able to score this century after a long 1021 days since his last 100 against Bangladesh in 2019.

Virat’s form comes at a time when the T20I World cup in Australia is on the verge of its start from October. But the question is whether or not Virat Kohli will be able to maintain his form in the world cup or not. Fingers Crossed!!
