Saina Nehwal defeated Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi 21-19, 21-9 in the opening round of the BWF World Championship. After the buzzing win, she qualified for the second round. Indian star Shuttler took 38 minutes to outplay Ngan Yi.
Indian Shuttler started her BWF World Championship Campaign-2022 with a straight-game win over Hong Kong’s Cheung Nagan Yi in Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Japan on Tuesday. She defeated China’s special administrative region’s star Ngan Yi 21-19, 21-9 in women’s single.
Nehwal, the Olympic bronze medallist took 38 minutes to outplay Ngan Yi in the opening round of 64. After the buzzing win, she qualified for the second round to face Nozomi Okuhara, a former number one player in Japan.
But, Okuhara pulled out herself from the scheduled match on August 25 due to injury, and thus Indian Shuttler Nehwal got a free pass into the pre-quarterfinals.

The 32-year-old former world number one, Nehwal will now directly face Thai player Busanan in the pre-quarterfinals.
On the other hand, in the women’s double, pair of T. Jolly and G. Gopichand also made a gigantic winning start.
The Indian duo stars defeated the Malaysian pair of Low Yeen Yuan and V. Slow 21-11, 21-13.
