India will host South Africa in a Test match in Chennai from June 28 to July 1. Bengaluru will host the ODI on June 16.
As reported earlier, South Africa will play against India in the women’s Test in the upcoming series, which will be held from June 16 to July 9. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for all-format series on Tuesday (May 14). Apart from the Test, the teams will participate in three ODIs and three T20Is.
The series will begin with a one-day warm-up match, where South Africa will face the BCCI Chairman’s XI at the M Chinnaswamy Staidum in Bangalore on June 13. The three-match ODI series will begin at the same venue on June 16. The three ODIs will start at 1:30pm IST and will be part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 cycle.
The event will also travel to Chennai, and the MA Chidambaram Stadium will host the one-off Test from June 28 to July 1. India’s previous home Tests against England and Australia in December 2023 ended in their favour. The last time India and South Africa faced each other in red cricket was in November 2014 in Mysore, where the visitors gave the Rainbow Nation an innings victory. Current Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is the trouble maker and the captain has nine wickets to her name in the match.
The four-day Test will be followed by the T20I series which will begin on July 5.
Chennai will also host limited-overs fixtures. India’s recent outing against Bangladesh was a success as they blanked the hosts with a 5-0 win in the T20I series. Meanwhile, India’s previous encounter against South Africa was just before the 2023 T20 World Cup, where the Proteas defeated India in the Tri-series. publive-imageOn the other hand, South Africa will come from a T20I series victory against Sri Lanka and a drawn ODI series where Chamari Athapaththu led the side chased down the record target in the last ODI.
India will have a busy season as they will play the South Africa series followed by the 2024 Women’s T20 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, which begins on July 19. India will return to Bangladesh for the Women’s World Cup 2024 starting on October 3.
