BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Saturday hailed India’s victory in the T20 World Cup, saying the team had “shut down its critics” with an extraordinary performance. Shah also announced a whopping reward of Rs 125 crore for the World Cup-winning team led by Rohit Sharma. “Under the exceptional leadership of Rohit Sharma, this team showed determination and resilience. They became the first team in the history of the ICC T20 to win the tournament without a win,” he said.

“I am pleased to announce the prize money of INR 125 crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team displayed exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement!” Shah said. India won their second T20 World Cup with a thrilling win over South Africa by seven wickets. The final took place in Barbados on Saturday.

The team’s previous T20 World Cup victory came in 2007 under the legendary captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Shah called India’s win “motivational”.

“They have met and silenced their critics time and time again by showing their amazing journey. Their story is inspiring, but today they join the ranks of the greats,” he added.

“This team has made us all proud with their dedication, hard work, and never-ending spirit. He said, “Led by Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and others, they have fulfilled the dreams and aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians.”
