Real Madrid’s Croatian striker Luka Modric has extended his contract with the club for another year, ensuring his stay at the Bernabeu until 2025, as the La Liga club announced on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2018, played a key role in Real’s successful campaign last season, helping them win their sixth Champions League title and fourth La Liga crown.
Modric’s previous contract expires at the end of the 2023-24 season. Still, during the celebration of Real’s Champions League victory. Which strengthened their record with 15 European Cups, the Croatian assured his fans that ‘he would do it and come back next time.
During his time at Real Madrid, which began in 2012, no one has collected more titles than Modric, who has a huge collection of 26 trophies with the Spanish giants.
Despite rumors of a possible retirement, especially following the announcement of fellow midfielder Toni Kroos’ retirement at the age of 34, the veteran player has chosen to continue his career.
Modric has no plans to retire from international football, even after Croatia’s disappointing performance at the recently concluded European Championship, where they were eliminated at the group stage.
I would like to continue playing forever, but maybe there will come a time when I will hang up my shoes. I will continue to play, but I don’t know how long,” Reuters quoted Modric, who has 178 caps for Croatia, as saying.
