Australia’s vice-captain Rachel Haynes retires from international Cricket

Australia women’s cricket team vice-captain Rachel Haynes announced her retirement from International Cricket at age of 35 on September 15. The Birmingham CWG Gold Medalist and six times World Cup winner said that the upcoming 8th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) which is scheduled to start in next month October 13 to November 20 will be her last.

Haynes, the left-handed batter made her Australia debut in 2009. She played 77 ODIs, 84 T20Is, and six test matches.

To all the teammates across my career, you are the reason I’ve played as long as I have, Haynes said while announcing her decision.

To be a leader within this environment has been the greatest privilege of my career, she added.

She was part of Australia Women in 2010, 2012, 2018, and 2020 T20 World Cup winning squads. She also helped Australia Women to win ODI world Cups two times in 2013 and 2022.

Haynes also help Australia Women to lift their first-ever gold medal in the final T20 of Common Wealth Games 2022 against India at Edgartown in Birmingham on August 7. In the final game, her unbeaten 18 off 10 balls including 1 six and 1 four took Australia women to win.

She nearly scored 4000 international runs in her career.

Australia Women congratulated her, and said on Twitter,

Not only one of the greatest players of her generation, but @RachelHaynes has also been an outstanding contributor to the culture of our team.
