- Three things Rishabh Pant shared to become a good wicket-keeper ahead of the SA T20 series starting on Thursday
As there is a saying somewhere that says,
“an individual’s future is the result of his/her choices made in the past”.
The same does apply with the vice-captain of the Indian Cricket national team, Rishabh Pant. While speaking on SG Podcast, Pant revealed that how he got to be a wicket keeper. He said, while he was very small & young, since than only he started wicket-keeping, but most importantly the credit for him to choose Wicket keeping, goes to his dad, who himself was Wicket keeper, and that’s how his journey began, he said.
Going from strength to strength, Pant in recent years have become the No.1 player of choice who can play with ease in all three formats of cricket.
However, from Thursday the cricketer will be seen vice captaining the Indian national team against the proteas in a T20 series whereas, KL Rahul will be seen as the main skipper. The match will be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and will be commencing from 9th June. It will be a 5-match T20I series between the two.
But two days ahead of the series, the Vice captain has something very important to share with all the budding and the aspiring cricketers around the world. Actually, he was questioned that what three qualities he would suggest to become a good wicket keeper. He said,
“I think one quality would be, you keep yourself agile, because in wicketkeeping you do different type of conditions. So, if you are agile enough that’s going to help a wicketkeeper. Second thing, watch the ball till the end. So, sometime what happens as a wicketkeeper we tend to know that the ball is coming and we become relaxed. So, till the time you catch the ball you should be watch it,”
He continued stating about the third crucial point was,
“Being disciplined and keep working on your techniques. Everyone has different technique but at the same time if you can come closer to the base, that is going to help everyone.”
And indeed, the cricketer is right in his way as we can see those three basic principles or qualities as evidence in his own progress in the international cricket.
Currently, the Indian team has already started their practice session at AJS (Arun Jaitley Stadium) and will be looking forward to implement the same during the match.
Speaking of the team, some major inclusions have been made with the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, the speedster Umran Malik, who proved his mettle in the IPL for gaining bowling speed up to 155 plus and grabbing attention of the decision makers of the cricket board.
