A 17-year-old girl claimed that Lamichhane raped her in a hotel room in Kathmandu. A joint panel of judges Dhruvaraja Nanda and Ramesh Dhakal decided to release the former IPL star on bail of Rs. 2 million, overturning the Kathmandu District Court’s decision.
In October, Lamichhane wrote on Facebook that he will “fully cooperate at all stages of the investigation and pursue legal action to prove my innocence.” before being arrested. Lamichhane, however, was banned from leaving the country pending a final court decision on the case.
Lamichhane is the most famous cricketer in Nepal. Also, the first cricketer of Nepal to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when he made his debut in the Delhi Capitals in 2018.
