The former cricket player and the umpire for a couple of good international matches, Asad Rauf, died at the age of 66. If we listen to the family, they say that he hasn’t been feeling well for the past few days. The family said,
He had not been feeling well for the last couple of days while running a business and came home early. Doctors say he had a Cardiac Arrest
The family
Let’s have a look at his career,
- He participated in 64 tests which includes 49 on-field and 15 as TV umpire
- In 139 ODI’s matches he was seen participating as umpire. and
- In T20Is, 28 matches overall he umpired for.
He was an accomplished first-class batter who toured along the Pakistani team without playing any match but later he came into the field of umpiring, so much so that his name got involved in the Elite club of umpires in the ICC.
But, the story of Asad Rauf, doesn’t end here. Despite having a successful career, Asad’s recognition took a black mark when he was found guilty of corruption and misconduct during the Indian Premier league by the BCCI in 2016. Later, he was later banned by BCCI under suspicion as accused by Mumbai Police in IPL spot fixing scandal of 2013.
After the incident, even ICC (International Cricket Council) did not spare Asad and condemned him for his involvement in breaching ICC code of conduct and later getting dropped from the Champions Trophy and also the ICC Elite Panel. However, with a ban for five years the end of the former umpire ended pathetically.
Accept all, the most pathetic thing is passing away and leaving his dear ones mourning for him for life. Saddened by the truth, PCB chief Ramiz Raja, expressed his condolences for the former umpire saying,
“Saddened to hear about the passing of Asad Rauf. Not only was he a good umpire but also had a wicked sense of humor. He always put a smile on my face and will continue to do so whenever I think about him. Many sympathies with his family for their loss”
Joining in offering his condolences, followed the former Pakistani cricketer, Kamran Akmal who said,
Sad to know about the news of former ICC umpire Asad Rauf’s demise
