‘2019 WC final was over 2 years ago…I still till this day revive countless messages’: Ben Stokes on Harsha Bhogles’ Twitter thread over Deepti Sharma’s criticism

The discussion over England’s Charlie Dean’s controversial run-out (Mankad) during the third ODI between India vs England in September end at Lords, is not supposed to stop as every day the English women’s team as well as now involved men’s players are digging the issue over the internet.

On Friday, broadcaster Harsha Bhogle took to Twitter to criticize the English side relations including their mainstream media coverage and cricket fraternity to the dismissal of the 21-year-old, referring to it ‘as a cultural thing.’

I remain disturbed by the vitriol directed towards Deepti. She played by the laws of the game and criticism of what she did must stop, he wrote on his social media. England men’s Test captain Ben Stokes has now responded to Bhogle’s Twitter thread.

During the 2019 World Cup final against New Zealand, Stokes has been on the receiving end over his dive that led to a boundary from a deflection off his bat, eventually taking the match to Super Over, which England won on boundary count.

The letter replied to the 31-year-old by writing, Well, you were not at fault on that one so with you there. On the reaction in England to the non-striker backing up, I think it is what you are told when you learn the game and so, part of culture. Very happy to chat about it one day if you have a moment.

Further on Bhogle’s refrence to the incident being a cultural thing, Stokes reacted,

Is this a cultural thing?? …..absolutely not, I receive messages regarding the overthrows from people all over the world, as people all over the world have made comment’s  on the Mankad dismissal, not jus people who are English.

Coming to the origin of the discussion, England’s Charlie Dean was on the crease as the non-striker, and at the moment India’s Deepti Sharma ran out her through a Mankad ball and the action led India to clear sweep the three matches ODI series at Lord’s on September 24. It was India’s historic win over the English team in their den.
